PLEASE NOTE:
If you want an extraordinary view in Vernazza, you have to earn it: there are 75 stairs to arrive from main street via Roma to Carattino 12. If you have mobility issues or toddlers, this may not be the right place for you.
The bathroom is small, as compared to American bathrooms, but guests love the water pressure in the shower, lots of storage space and the custom slate countertop and flooring.
CARATTINO 12 can be combined with IL CIASSO for a family and friends vacation retreat.
Prices INCLUDE the Town of Vernazza Visitor Tax (Imposta di Soggiorno): €2 per person (ages 10 and up) per night for the first three days of stay, from March 1 to October 31, 2021. Children under the age of 10 are exempt.
Location
Vernazza is a beautiful medieval village filled with multicolored pastel houses nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the scenic, terraced vineyards on its hillsides. It is one of five Cinque Terre villages in Italy’s Cinque Terre National Park.
Carattino 12 is in the center of Vernazza, found on a caruggio, a typical Ligurian medieval alley, and positioned directly over the sea, up and away from the crowds in a tucked-away location where you will enjoy tranquility.
You walk out the front door, down about two flights of stairs and you are on the main street via Roma. From there, a five-minute walk takes you to the train station, Piazza Marconi, and Vernazza’s harbor and pier (where you can take a ferry boat or meet a private boat tour).
If you want to hike, it is easy: walk up to reach the trail head to Corniglia or walk down, cross the street and up to reach the trail head to Monterosso or up past the Town Hall to hike to the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Reggio (one of our favorites).
We suggest arriving by train because Vernazza is a car-free village, and you will not need a car while in the Cinque Terre. If you have a car, Ruth can advise you on your best options for parking. If you arrive by car service, we can meet you at the entrance to the village where you will be dropped off.

BEYOND ALL EXPECTATIONS! Beautifully renovated, supremely comfortable, immaculately clean, and ideally located apartment, with breathtaking views. Without a doubt the best place to stay in Cinque Terre. We didn’t want to leave! Ruth was the nicest and most thoughtful and attentive host imaginable, leaving us baskets full of goodies, Prosecco in the fridge, and a big bowl of cherries, fresh from the market that morning. Before our arrival she helped with dinner reservations and gave us advice for getting there. And on our last day when we couldn’t tear ourselves away, she generously offered a late checkout. Her guide to Cinque Terre is full of great suggestions for activities, shopping and restaurants. We particularly loved the pesto-making class at Nessun Dorma, the ceramics shop Fabbrica d’Arte, and dinner at Belforte with the best waiter, Andrea! Of course we told everyone that Ruth sent us there, and loved seeing their faces light up at the mention of her name. She is a fixture in the community, and as president and co-founder of Save Vernazza she is committed to preserving the beauty of this most perfect spot in the world and sharing her love of it with others. We will be back!

This airbnb is worth every penny. My group of friends was a bit concerned about the price so we stayed at more budget-friendly options for the remainder of our trip, and we all agreed this one was entirely worth it! You’ll wake up to the sound of the waves crashing underneath you, then spend your morning barefoot on the patio watching the sunrise. Cinque Terre has my heart, and this apartment is, I promise, exactly where you want to stay in Cinque Terre. Two night was not long enough, I could have spent a full week here.

We had a wonderful stay in this apartment! The views were beautiful and it had everything we needed. Ruth was so much help and the guide she had written and left for us was invaluable! It was hard to leave such a beautiful place!

To say that Ruth’s place is unique wouldn’t be enough. And to say that Ruth is unique as a host would be equally short. The apartment is nothing short of spectacular. Whether you want sea views or village views, it has both. It is well-appointed and fully-stocked. The location in Vernazza is fantastic. As a host, Ruth is attentive, thorough and very, very accommodating. If your travels take you to Cinque Terre — and they should! — we can’t recommend this place highly enough.
